All the diplomats and powerful noblemen and ministers in Pune were perplexed at sheer cruelty and blatancy of the gruesome incidence.  The assassination of Peshwa Narayan Rao took place on August 30, 1773 in Pune, Maharashtra. The 18 year old Peshwa of the Maratha Confederacy was murdered during the Ganesh Chaturthi Festival, which took place from August 21–31. The assassination was plotted by his uncle Raghunath Rao (Raghobadada ) and his wife Anandibai. Raghunath Rao wanted to remove his teenage nephew and become the Peshwa (Prime Minister).
